Tips for Ordering Turf:
-
Minimize Seams:
Order as few rolls as possible to keep seams to a minimum, ensuring a smoother installation. -
Handleable Lengths:
Keep roll lengths manageable. For example, 100′ rolls can be heavy and hard to maneuver without proper equipment. -
Allow for Trimming:
It’s best to order slightly more than your exact measurements so you can trim off excess without resorting to piecing together mismatched sections. However, avoid ordering so much that you end up with a significant surplus.
Examples:
- For a space of 28′ x 50′, opt for two 15′ x 50′ rolls instead of four 15′ x 28′ rolls.
- For an area of 28′ x 150′, ten 15′ x 28′ rolls are ideal—not two 15′ x 150′ rolls, which would be too heavy and unwieldy.
- For a 35′ x 51′ area (1,785 sq. ft.), you could choose either three 15′ x 51′ rolls (totaling 2,295 sq. ft.) or four 15′ x 35′ rolls (totaling 2,100 sq. ft.). While three rolls reduce seams, they create 510 sq. ft. of waste compared to 315 sq. ft. with four rolls, so we recommend ordering four.
Ordering Tips:
-
Always Order Extra:
For a professional finish and long-lasting installation, order more turf than your area requires. This ensures you have extra material for precise cutting and alignment. Remember, turf has a pile direction—much like the grain in wood—so all rolls should face the same way. -
Order in Rectangles:
No matter the shape of your project, it’s best to order a rectangular piece that covers the entire area and then trim away the excess. This method usually results in cleaner seams and a less stressful installation process. Need help? Call our team at 1-800-496-3092 for expert advice on ordering the perfect amount.
- Break Down Irregular Shapes:
For irregularly shaped areas, divide the space into logical rectangles, calculate the turf needed for each, and then add them up. Although creative methods might seem appealing, our experience shows that buying a little extra generally leads to a neater and more durable outcome.
By following these guidelines, you’ll save money, minimize seams, and ensure a smoother, more efficient installation. Happy turf ordering!
